The DreamWorks biopic brought in around $21m in its second weekend after distributor Buena Vista took it from 11 theatres to 1,775. Steven Spielberg's Lincoln received a boost. And given that these finales tend to be sentimental, overblown affairs, what's the betting Breaking Dawn – Part 2 will overtake Eclipse's $300.5m to become the biggest in the series in North America by the time all is said and done? The supernatural mash-up opened in 61 territories around the world on $199.6m, establishing a $340.9m worldwide debut that should see the movie past $500m by Sunday. Summit Entertainment's cash cow (Lionsgate can now enjoy the spoils since it acquired Summit earlier this year) also caused a storm outside the States. That's a hefty launch by anybody's standards and helped Lionsgate cross $1bn for the year-to-date in aggregated grosses for all its movies. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 opened in North America over the weekend on an estimated $141.3m. It was only the second biggest US opening weekend for the franchise, which tells you a lot about the popularity of 2009's New Moon, yet there's no denying that the Twilight finale is shaping up to become a monster.
